DOZENS of brave fundraisers took to the sea for a New Year's Day swim at Appley beach.

Organised by Ryde Inshore Rescue, there was a demonstration given by the volunteer crew of their life-saving techniques before the swimmers took the plunge.

Isle of Wight Councillor Wayne Whittle kicked off the event with a safety briefing for the swimmers and at the sound of the Ryde Inshore Rescue tractor horn, the brave bathers ran into the sea.
