TWO people have died in the space of two days following tragic car accidents.

One of the victims has been named as Gordon Gately, 75, of Gilesgate, Prestwood, who died on Thursday morning following the collision in the High Street, Prestwood, on Wednesday evening.

Mr Gateley was rushed to Wycombe Hospital in High Wycombe following the accident at 6pm. Flowers have been laid at the roadside where the pensioner lost his life.

He was in collision with a van which was being driven by a 45-year-old man from St Albans, Hertfordshire.

A post-mortem found Mr Gateley died of severe head and pelvic injuries and the inquest was expected to be opened on Tuesday.

In a second accident, a 40-year-old woman from Milton Keynes was killed after her car crashed into the side of a building just before 11.30pm on Friday.

Police are trying to track down a passenger who fled the scene of the car crash.

The passenger fled the scene at the junction of the B4009 and Chestnut Way, in Longwick, when the car rammed into a window of Wellington House, a business address.

The woman, who was driving a Smart car, died at the scene when the vehicle crashed into the side of the building.

A police spokesman said the passenger fled before police arrived and an extensive search including a helicopter and police dogs found nothing.

He stressed that police need the passenger to come forward.

It is believed the woman killed in the crash had spent the evening in Chinnor.
