Nursery could become a caravan park

A FORMER Isle of Wight plant nursery could be sold to become a caravan park.

The Isle of Wight Council is expected to make a delegated decision on the future of the Sunnycrest Nursery this month, which could lead to the nursery being sold for £390,000.

The nursery, in Wacklands Lane, Newchurch, had been let to a charity providing employment and training for people with disabilities, however the charity surrendered its tenancy earlier this year.

The site was advertised for offers in excess of £450,000, however the council said in a report published today (Wednesday) that there was limited interest and the highest offer received was for £390,000 from the adjoining land owner.

The deal depends on planning permission being granted for a change of use for the location to become a caravan site.

A decision is not due to be taken until Thursday, next week, at the earliest.

Richard if you read many other stories on this website there are as I said sarcastic pointless comments attached, lets not be pedantic about it you are arguing a very week point. With regard to the story not being newsworthy I would like to make a couple of points. I am one of many local landowners/businesses local to this site. Due to government funding cuts to Osel the charity this site was occupied by, the site had to reluctantly be given up resulting in a number of people with special needs being made redundant from their nursery jobs with few if any vacancies locally being available to them. In additon the "guy next door" in one of the biggest national caravanning clubs who put their planning application in virtually the same day as the for sale boards were erected, and personally I have not seen this site marketed at all anywhere so there was no real opportunity for other prospective buyers! Lastly the huge increase in size of this caravan site is very difficult to just

Precisely Richard. This is not a story about a charity. It is, as you put it, a story about a field. Thrilling. Chris - if you dont understand the sheer delight of sarcasm then you are beyond my help. I adore the sarcastic / humourous comments that follow the news stories, more please.

Every story Chris? Where are the others? Also this charity surrendered its tenancy before the site was put up for sale and the guy next door wants it because no one else did. What's newsworthy about a field?

Well said, Chris. This, actually, is a significant story: this charity was doing really good work with disabled and vulnerable people, and now, because of the council's 'everything must go' sell-off of assets, it looks like it's to become yet another caravan park. (Just what the island needs, more blimmin' caravans.) Can't help but wonder what all the people it was helping will be doing now...

My apologies for complaining but what is the need for these pointless sarcastic comments which seem to be following every news story now? Grow up people!
