UPDATED 11:05*

THE names of Olympic Torch bearers for the Isle of Wight stage of the torch's journey have been revealed this morning (Monday).

The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has published the names of all those chosen to carry the torch ahead of the games along.

Earlier today it revealed the route the torch would be carried along on the Isle of Wight.

Among those chosen to run is blind fundraiser Colin McArthur, who has become famous for stunts including flown a plane and ridden a motorbike round Smallbrook Speedway track to raise awareness for RP Fighting Blindness.

He will carry the torch through part of its Carisbrooke route.

Colin, 60, of Sandown, told the County Press this morning (Monday): "This is fantastic, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"I am really pleased, this will help to raise even more awareness of the charity. It's really great news and everyone is very excited."

Sheila Ingram, 74, of East Cowes is also among the torch bearers.

According to LOCOG she was nominated for her charity work and voluntary work with old people as well as caring for her disabled husband.

The oldest Isle of Wight torch bearer is Sheila Ingram, 74 and the youngest Island torch bearer is Ashlyn Dickinson, 12.

12 of the 22 runners who will carry the torch on the Isle of Wight are from the Island, the rest are from the mainland and one runner from Shanghai will also take part, as the list below shows. Originally it was believed there were 11 Isle of Wight runners due to LOCOG listing Ashlyn Dickinson, 12, as being from Rye, however she is from Ryde.

Winner of last year's Isle of Wight Marathon Les Cupis, of Niton, has been chosen to carry the torch during part of the Lymington leg of its journey. *Eden Crumplin, 12, of Ryde will also be carrying the torch in Lymington.

Why is it that so many who are carrying the torch are NOT from the Island. I can think of many many people on the Island including many from the Island Games whos names were put forward and missed out.
I realise that not all can take part but 10 have missed out because of the ones from the mainland coming to the island to carry the torch.
What a shame !!

Congratulations to those Islanders selected to carry the torch but on behalf of the Island Games Association I shall be registering with Locog our disappointment at the absence from the list of our star athletes and/or organisers at an Island Games last year endorsed by Lord Coe as an integral part of the 2012 build up.
