CONSULTATION has started on a transport strategy for the Island covering the next 27 years.
The Isle of Wight Council has launched the 12-week exercise on the draft Island Transport Plan (ITP).
The third plan of its kind is made up of two separate parts: An Island-wide strategy covering 2011 to 2038 and an implementation plan, which runs from 2011 to 2013, pending the start of the highways Private Finance Initiative (PFI).
The PFI was recently given the go-ahead by the government following its spending review and the council is waiting to see how much it has been cut.
The council has also produced a habitat regulation assessment and strategic environmental assessment to help explain the likely impacts of the plan on nature, the environment and the community.
Copies of the ITP and accompanying reports can be found by logging on to www.iwight.com/transport, or it can be viewed at County Hall and at all Island libraries.
Comments can be e-mailed to rachel.mills@iow.gov.uk or posted to: Transport Policy, Highways and Transport Service, Isle of Wight Council, Enterprise House, Monks Brook, Newport, PO30 5WB.
The deadline for sending comments to the council is 5pm on Friday, February 4, 2011.
