Outstanding idea for discarded chairs

DISCARDED camp chairs from the Isle of Wight Festival have been used to raise hundreds of pounds to help disadvantaged young people with challenging behaviour.

Isle of Wight Charity Challenge and Adventure rented out the salvaged seats to the crowds at Robin Hill’s recent Cinema Under The Stars programme. Their Rent-a-Charity-Chair idea raised £300.

Phil Wells, of Isle of Wight Charity Challenge and Adventure, said: "When we took part in the festival tent salvage in June we were amazed at how many perfectly good chairs were just left abandoned. At Cinema Under The Stars, we couldn’t keep up with demand at times.

"We hope to bring the idea to more of the Island’s great outdoor events so we can raise much needed funds to help continue the charity’s work — building the confidence and self-esteem of young people, using outdoor activities."
