AN OUTDOOR gym is set to open at a Freshwater playground, so parents can work out while their kids are on the swings.
Eight fitness stations, including cardio equipment and weights, will be installed next to the playground at Stroud Road Recreation Ground.
The £11,000 cost will be met by the government-funded Freshwater Community Initiative, which has committed £7,000 to the project, and Freshwater Parish Council. The council’s finance committee recommended it contribute the remaining £4,000.
Initiative chairman David Lewis said: "We think there is a real need for this in the village. There are a lot of young families here who want to exercise but don’t necessarily have the time or money to go to a gym.
"They can use the machines while their children play."
