SATURDAY’S miserable weather failed to dampen the community spirits of Wootton residents when hundreds went to the village’s Party in the Park event staged at Wootton Recreation Ground.
Around 200 hardy souls braved the rain to attend the party, which is supported by the parish council.
Inside the council’s main marquee, there was a display outlining what will take place in the village over the next few years under the Island Plan. Residents also got the chance to view the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s proposals for a new station at Wootton.
There was a falconry display and the rugby club threw open its doors so stalls could be moved inside away from the damp weather.
There were also games for children a tug of war and a bouncy castle.
Assistant parish clerk Madge Reeves said: "In the end, it happened despite the weather. We were really lucky. We persevered and in the end, it worked."
