A CHRISTIAN group which provides care for people out in Ryde and Newport on Friday and Saturday nights walked away from last night's Isle of Wight Community Action Awards £1,750 richer.
The Isle of Wight Street Pastors, who hand out emergency footwear, foil blankets and a helping hand to those the worse for wear or in distress, took the overall prize plus the local communities category at the Isle of Wight Rural Community Council-organised awards.
The ceremony, held at the Riverside Centre, Newport, saw money awarded in six different categories.
Main sponsors are the County Press, with Wightlink, Cemoc, Pan Neighbourhood Partnership, Islecare and the RCC providing category awards.
