PATIENTS at St Mary’s Hospital are satisfied with the service they receive but concerned about waiting times, a survey has revealed.
An outpatient department survey, carried out by healthcare watchdog the Care Quality Commission, showed the Isle of Wight Primary Care Trust (PCT) is performing in line with 60 per cent of the 163 trusts surveyed in most categories.
Between March and May last year, 484 patients answered questions about their experience as an outpatient at St Mary’s, on subjects including booking an appointment, waiting times, treatment and cleanliness at the hospital.
Overall, patients were satisfied with the care they received and felt they were treated with respect and dignity, but some people felt they were not given information they could easily understand and others said they were not told how long they would have to wait if their appointment was delayed.
Sheila Paul, chief operating officer at St. Mary's Hospital, said: "To improve the quality of services we provide at St Mary’s we need to understand what patients think about their experience and what they expect as a patient.
"The survey shows the majority of patients were satisfied with the care they received as an outpatient and felt they were treated with respect and dignity, which is pleasing.
"However, the survey does show room for improvement and highlights areas where we need to make further progress."
