A WOMAN suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a car in Wootton.

The collision, between the female pedestrian — a 59-year-old woman from Wootton — and a silver Toyota Avensis, happened in the High Street shortly before 8.40am on Friday.

She was taken to St Mary's Hospital with leg, arm and shoulder fractures.

The driver of the Toyota, a 32-year-old Sandown man, was uninjured.

Isle of Wight Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

PC Dominic Green said: "I am appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward, particularly the driver of a car-derived van — a goods vehicle based on the design of a car — that passed the scene within seconds of the incident."

Anyone with information should contact PC Green on 101, quoting 44160454917.
