A CHURCH on the Isle of Wight, worried about financial problems in the community is to offer debt counselling.

King's Church in Sandown, formerly known as the New Hope Christian Fellowship — along with the King's Church in Portsmouth — teamed up with the award-winning Christians Against Poverty to offer a free debt counselling service from November, after seeing people struggling with money.

Sandra Snell, administrator and leadership team member of King's Church, Sandown, said: "We recognise that there are lots of people in debt, especially in this financial climate.

"As we are one of the food bank distribution centres on the Isle of Wight, we see needy people come into our church. We want to show them love, and help those who need it, out of their debt situations."

The two churches have sent members to Bradford to undergo training with the charity to qualify them to help guide people through their financial woes.
