A CAMPAIGN against plans for a large housing development near Ryde is gathering pace.
The Ryde Against Pennyfeathers (RAP) protest group claims the proposals, to build between 800 and 1,400 homes on land at Smallbrook, would have a huge impact on the surrounding roads and infrastructure.
It has now launched its own website, www.rydeagainstpennyfeathers.co.uk
Concerned residents can also attend the next meeting of the Ryde North East Action Group, which will be held at the Simeon Arms pub, Simeon Street, Ryde, at 7pm, on Tuesday, March 20.
RAP secretary Tony Gordon said: "All members of the public who are interested in forming a strategy for saving Ryde from unnecessary future development are invited to come along."

I really don't get it. People will endlessly complain about the cost of housing on the island being 11 times the average salary, but no-one wants there to be more houses to be built to ease the demand and lower prices. The island economy is small, because the population is small. There aren't enough people to make businesses thrive for such a large land mass area. If you want your kids to live with you until they're in their mid-40's then yeah, support this group. Otherwise, allow the houses to be built and give people a chance. I do agree that the road systems are poor... but using it as an excuse to not rebuild the economy is rather low.

Perhaps they should have thought of this when they were vociferously complaining about farm yard smells. Let's keep these fields full of cows.
