Perfect flying weather for kites

HUNDREDS of colourful kites filled the skies above Bembridge Down at the Up and Down Kite Festival.

Cancelled in June because of bad weather, organisers must have been thanking their lucky stars when Saturday dawned to blue skies and a gentle breeze.

The event was organised by the New Carnival Company and Natural Wight, in partnership with Spectrum Medina Housing, and started with a kite walk led by Fat Samba to the site from Yaverland, along the coastal footpath.

Workshops were held at schools and community centres across the Island throughout May and June, and also last week, giving people an opportunity to make their own nature-inspired kites for the festival.
