THE PFI company behind the Isle of Wight’s new highways service has announced a range of new job opportunities.

Island Roads has launched a recruitment drive for more than 15 different positions from general highways maintenance operatives to facilities co-ordinators.

Paul Herbert, service director, said: "These opportunities are designed to encourage local employment, using local people with expertise and experience in a wide range of skills which we need to deliver the highways service.

"We are looking to recruit employees who can deliver a high quality service, know and understand the unique features on the Island the priorities of local residents."

The new highways service divides the Island into six districts.

Island Roads will be recruiting district response teams to provide a local response to highway emergencies and incidents.

Mr Herbert said the teams would include people with all-round highways maintenance skills and an ability to develop strong and positive relationships with town and parish councils.

Interviews and selection will take place next month, ready for the start of the contract on April 1.

For more details about the jobs, see the Isle of Wight County Press tomorrow (Friday).
