MIDDLESEX University has come third in a performance table of former polytechnics.
Only the University of Westminster and Robert Gordon University, in Aberdeen came higher in the Financial Times table.
Middlesex came first among new universities in a table of graduates going on to a higher degree.
The vice chancellor of the Southgate based university, Michael Driscoll, said: "This is the recognition we deserve as one of the top modern universities in the UK.''
