Please don’t rain on our Bestival

TENS of thousands of music fans have packed their wellies and will make their way to Robin Hill this weekend for the return of Bestival.

Campsites opened today (Thursday), with eager fans hoping to secure the best pitches ahead of four days of music and mayhem.

Dizzee Rascal, The Flaming Lips and Prodigy top a bill packed with hundreds of acts, including a host of Island offerings.

Some forecasters have predicted heavy rain for Saturday, although other forecasts have been more optimistic.

Several changes have been made to the site since 2008, when torrential conditions turned the site into a mud bath.

Robin Hill manager Darren Cool said they had learned lessons from two years ago, introducing better drainage and tracks, as well as a management plan to reduce potential problems.

"We’re looking forward to what should be a very, very good event," he said.

The event, which sold out months ago, will be broadcast on Channel 4 next weekend, while further coverage will be available on the website of broadcast sponsors Topman CTRL, www.topmanctrl.com.
