A Borehamwood mother has called for changing rooms at the Venue to be cleaned more frequently because she says they are muddy and dirty.

But leisure manager, Angela Speddy, said footprints on the floor and discarded rubbish coincided with times when a lot of people, especially children, were using the pool, which was thoroughly cleaned each day.

The 31-year-old mother, who takes her 11-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter swimming at the pool three times a week, said she had seen discarded nappies in the changing rooms and was considering buying "jelly" shoes for her children to walk on the floor.

The mother, who said she had spoken to staff and filled in complaint forms, added: "The old pool was cleaner. You can not walk on the floor because it is so muddy and dirty. It has got to be kept regularly clean throughout the day."

Ms Speddy, Hertsmere Borough Council leisure department manager for Borehamwood, said the floor could get dirty at busy times, when 170 children could be using the changing rooms, and added: "It is a symptom of the level of usage."

She said contract cleaners thoroughly cleaned between 5am and 9.30am daily, and Venue staff would check and clean the changing rooms during the rest of the day.

But Ms Speddy, who monitors the service through customer feedback, said the Venue was looking into some contract cleaning being done during the day.
