A MAN airlifted to hospital from a supply ship, after he was taken ill, has died.
Two crew members tried to resuscitate the man when the alarm was raised at around 6am on Monday morning, before the UK Coastguard helicopter arrived to take him to St Mary's Hospital.
Police have today (Wednesday) confirmed he died.
A spokeswoman said: "The man was taken to St Mary's Hospital where he was confirmed dead. Officers from Hampshire Constabulary attended the ship to establish the circumstances of the death.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
The cause of his death has not been confirmed, although a Bembridge RNLI spokesman said he had suffered a suspected stroke.
