Police drug driving warning

THE officer who assessed the driver who caused the crash in which ten-year-old Evey Staley was killed has been featured in a video released by police today (Thursday).

Impaired driver assessor PC Jon Lansley was called to St Mary's Hospital in the aftermath of the collision and, as part of a series of hard-hitting videos, he has spoken about the dangers of mixing drink and drugs and getting behind the wheel.

Robert Blakely, who was jailed for ten years for causing Evey's death, was more than twice the drink drive limit and had been smoking cannabis. The story has been at the heart of a police drink and drug driving campaign.

In today's video, released on Youtube and available to view below, PC Lansley said: "Each drug will have an effect on the body. 

"Alcohol will do certain things, cannabis will do something else, by combining those you are putting your body out of its own equilibrium."

He also urged people to take care when using prescription medicine, to read the label and speak to their doctor or pharmacist to make sure it is safe to drive.
