By Richard Wright

Saturday, February 6, 2010

POLICE with dogs failed to track down a youth reported to have been seen with a gun in the Butts Copse area of Bembridge on Friday.

Unarmed teams completed a search of the area and carried out inquiries with local shops and businesses.

Although initial enquiries established there was no immediate danger to the public, police say they are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about the youth, who was seen at about 1.30pm.

The boy, or his family, are  also encouraged to contact officers as police say there may be an innocent explanation for what was reported.

The youth was described as white, in his early teens and wearing a black zip-up padded waterproof coat with the hood up

• Anyone with information is asked to phone Newport Police Station on 101. Information can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
