A 21-year-old man suffered head injuries after he was allegedly headbutted in an Isle of Wight pub at the weekend.

Police have appealed for witnesses after claims a man was attacked by a man wearing a white jacket in Wetherspoons, Ryde at about 10.30pm on Saturday.

The victim was taken to St Mary’s Hospital and treated for head injuries.

PC Mark Nigh said: "This appears to have been an unprovoked attack on a man stood drinking with friends.

"It occurred in a crowded bar on a Saturday night and left the victim with cuts to his eye which needed stitches."

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and released on police bail to April 2 pending further enquires.
