Police investigation after body found on pavement

POLICE confirmed in the early hours of this morning (Saturday) that they were investigating the earlier discovery of a man's body on the pavement of an Isle of Wight street.

In a statement issued at 2.40am police confirmed they were called to North Street, Sandown, following the late night discovery of the body.

Cross Street and North Street were closed while the investigation continued. The area remained cordoned-off this morning during the forensic examination.

A police spokesman said at 9.30 this morning that further detail was expected to be released later in the day.
