THREE primary schools have been given plaques recognising excellence in the teaching of literacy and numeracy.
Director of education Ken Davis presented the plaques to the headmasters of Pickhurst Infant School, in Pickhurst Lane, West Wickham, Darrick Wood Junior School, in Lovibonds Avenue, Orpington, and Southborough Primary School, in Southborough Lane, Bromley.
The plaques celebrate the Primary Quality Mark, awarded by the National Basics Skills Agency, to primary schools which can demonstrate they plan effective literacy and numeracy classes for all pupils.
Schools have to monitor individual pupils' progress, target support where needed and demonstrate a rising trend in pupils' achievement in the two key skills.
Mr Davis said: "I am delighted to be able to present these awards which acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all those involved in their attainment."
