A YOUNG man was allegedly sexually assaulted by another man in Newport town centre.
Detectives are investigating after police were called to Yates’ bar, in Newport High Street, shortly before 4am this morning (Friday).
DS Gary Lyons, of Isle of Wight CID, said: "The victim had spent time with a group of men and women he’d met in Yates’s bar on Thursday night. The exact circumstances and motive for the alleged assault are not clear at this time.
"Enquiries are continuing to trace a possible suspect. Scenes of crime officers completed a forensic examination in Newport High Street this morning. Detectives would like to hear from anyone with information who was in or near Yates’s bar during Thursday night and the early hours of this morning."
The alley next to the bar was sealed off for several hours this morning.
