Police talked man down from cliff

SPECIALIST police negotiators were brought to the Isle of Wight yesterday (Sunday) after concerns for the welfare of a man in Shanklin.

The negotiators were brought to Ryde Pier Head by a Ministry of Defence launch.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to the cliff path area of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. Police officers responded to concerns for the welfare of a man.

"Officers deployed to the scene included specialist police negotiators."

They added: "The situation was resolved safely by police the evening (Sunday)."
