If there were any doubts that Fulham's team would be getting a new look for summer, they were surely extinguished in Sunday's pitiful 3-0 defeat at play-off chasing Wolves.

Coach Alan Smith apologised to fans for their wasted journey, but it is likely to be the players who pay the price for the dismal end to the season.

A run of two wins from the last 10 games shows how far Fulham are away from fulfilling Mohammed Al-Fayed's dream (or is that demand?) of Premiership football.

And Sunday's home game with Huddersfield Town represents the current squad's last chance to make an impression on Tigana before he enters the transfer market. No-one enhanced their reputation during the miserable performance at Molineux against Wolves, as Fulham managed just one shot on target all match.

"This was not a particularly good performance," admitted Smith, with classic under-statement. It was disappointing all round and you have to feel sorry for the fans who paid good money to get to Wolverhampton.

"They deserved better and we are sorry for that."

Striker Geoff Horsfield has pledged that Fulham will sign off the season on a better note when they face play-off chasing Huddersfield on Saturday.

"More than anything we want to show the fans that we still care and that we are still a good team," he said.

"I know we can do it and we will be giving everything to try and beat Huddersfield and end the season on a high."

The local press in Leicester has suggested that Horsfield could be a summer transfer target for Martin O'Neill. But Horsfield's comments suggest he is keen to be a part of Fulham's future.

"We all want to show what we can do - both to the supporters and to the new manager," he added.

One man Tigana is likely to be keen to keep hold of is captain Chris Coleman, who was named in the Division One PFA team of the season at the weekend.

But Coleman is a target for three Premiership clubs - Spurs, Everton and Sunderland - and would attract a transfer fee in excess of £3m.

Coleman has said he is happy to stay at Craven Cottage but he would be one of the club's most saleable assets should Al-Fayed decide that he is not prepared to bankroll all of Tigana's summer transfer dealings.

One man definitely leaving is assistant manager Roy Evans as Tigana wants to bring in his own number two.
