TWITTER is to be used by Isle of Wight police to promote safety during the Bank Holiday scooter rally.
The new police Twitter account @IOWPolRoads is being used by officers and during the next few days advice and information from the Island’s Road’s Policing Unit and other Island agencies and organisations will be tweeted to ensure that road users are kept up-to-date and safe.
Sgt Dave Sanderson said: "This should be a great weekend for scooterists to explore our 500 miles of roads, but I would like them to pause and consider that although there have been significant reductions In the last five years the number of deaths and injuries on our roads remains too high.
"The Roads Policing Unit is reminding all road users to Think Bike — looking carefully for motorbikes when pulling out at a junction — and not driving too close to motorcyclists who can be intimidated by aggressive motoring."
Tweets will include safety information and advice for all users, including the thousands of scooterists.
