A BIG DAY FOR OLD CRANLEIGHANS.

Thames Ditton-based hockey team Old Cranleighans, is preparing for the biggest match in the club's history on Sunday when they entertain Premier Division Cannock in the quarter finals of the National Cup.

Old Cranleighans, in Surrey Hampshire Division One, have not had an easy route to the quarter finals, beating Wimbledon, Chiswick, City of Portsmouth, Fareham and Spalding, all of who play in higher divisions.

Eight of Cannock's players have recently had international call-ups though some of the OC's squad have international connections - David Knapp, Jon Rees and Mark Smith for Wales and Don Williams for England and Great Britain.

Captain Will Stephens said: "This is going to be a great match. We have faced stiff opposition and triumphed as underdogs every time. We are hoping for a good crowd and with our current form we will certainly give Cannock a good run for their money."

The match starts at 1.30pm at the Old Cranleighans' sports ground, Portsmouth Road, Thames Ditton.

They warmed up with a 5-2 victory over Basingstoke. Two goals from Knapp and a short corner by John Reed put them three-up after 15 minutes. The other two came in the second half, a Knapp penalty and an effort from Mark Smith.
