Pop up shops survey launched

A POP up shops survey, to find ways to make the most of empty shops on the Isle of Wight has been launched.

Isle of Wight Makers Network (IWMN), which promotes independent artists and crafts people, created the survey with support from the Isle of Wight Council and Quay Arts.

It followed a recent talk by London-based expert Dan Thompson, who talked about the potential of empty shops.

The survey has been designed to find out how much interest there is in the idea of creating pop up shops and sharing experience.

Sara Netherway, administrator, said: "We are asking people on the Isle of Wight who are interested in getting involved with empty shops, either creative or landlord, to answer the short survey."

The survey can be completed via the IWMN website isleofwightmakers.co.uk

Wouldn't it be cheaper for craft/art people to do a craft fair or have a market stall?

Tell us all, what exactly is going to be in these empty shops that litter every town/village?
Each town/village already has hairdressers, paper shops, junk shops, cafes, fish shops, veg shops, take-aways, pubs, cycle shops, DIY shops, bakers, etc etc, what more do locals and holiday makers need?
Factor into the cost rent, business rates, tax, wages, stock, insurance, and each one will be shut after a week with no profit.
They are shut for a reason, people go to superstores for cheap items which local shops can not compete with.
