THE annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal was launched with a short service in Wootton on Saturday.
The event, held at the village’s community centre, included the standards of various legion branches, other forces and emergency services organisations.
There was no traditional street parade due to road works, however music was provided by the Vectis Corps of Drums.
Isle of Wight Council chairman Cllr Susan Scoccia and fellow Isle of Wight councillor and RBL county president Cllr Ian Stephens attended the ceremony.
Cllr Stephens said: "We are striving to raise the profile of the RBL on the Island. The RBL Poppy Appeal is an extremely important part of our fundraising to support veterans and forces families."
