A recent meeting of the Shenley's Women's Institute heard about the work of the Seamen's Mission in London's dockland.

The mission, set up during Queen Victoria's reign, recently celebrated 150 years in existence. Members heard of how it was originally started, and how the movement has evolved over time.

As well as providing bed and board for sailors docking in the capital, the mission helps with legal matters such as tracing family when a sailor falls ill.
