A POWER cut affected 1,300 properties in the Cowes area this afternoon (Friday).

The fault, which is currently being investigated by engineers, caused the activation of a safety trip to a high voltage overhead line at around 3.15pm.

So far, 500 properties have had their power restored.

A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Electricity said: "We have not received any damage reports, so the power cut should not be lengthy. Our engineers are doing they can to restore power to affected homes as soon as we possibly can."
