Praise for adult social care services

By County Press Reporter - Monday, December 7, 2009
THE Island is performing well when it comes to adult social care.
The latest annual performance assessment from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) showed the Isle of Wight Council had made improvements on 2008.
It graded the council's efforts in making a positive contribution as excellent, while in all other areas, including delivering improved help and emotional well-being and maintaining personal dignity and respect, it was said to be performing well.
The report found few people were staying in hospital longer than necessary and early identification of lifestyle issues was helping prevent illness and conditions long term.
The CQC was also impressed with the council's improved communications with voluntary sector organisations and support networks, as well as statutory and non-statutory agencies.
The council's cabinet member for social care, Cllr Dawn Cousins, said "This demonstrates the processes and services we put in place, to improve services, are having a positive effect.
"The council has a clear vision of how it wants to deliver adult social care services and we are already identifying areas we can not only build on but also improve."
Members of Isle of Wight Council's cabinet will discuss the full report at the January cabinet meeting.
