Priority fight against bad behaviour

COMBATING anti-social behaviour on the Island remains a top priority, according to Isle of Wight Council officials.

Head of community safety Zoryna O’Donnell told the council’s fire and community safety scrutiny panel Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) had been successful on the Island but said more needed to be done.

Following instructions to local authorities by home secretary Alan Johnson, Mrs O’Donnell said there should be more follow-up action once an ASBO had been issued and more practical help for victims. "If we are seen to be dealing with anti-social behaviour, then people’s perception is we are not tolerating it.

"Anti-social behaviour is not a big problem on the Island but it’s important to communicate effectively about what we are doing," she said.
