Priority for residents during Isle of Wight Festival

ISLE of Wight commuters will be given priority when travelling with Hovertravel over the Isle of Wight Festival weekend.

Hovertravel managing director Neil Chapman said: "To avoid any unnecessary delays to our valued commuters and local residents, we would ask customers to make themselves known to staff at the terminal. They will be fast-tracked to the priority boarding area at the front of the queue and on to the next available departure, ahead of the festival customers.

"We recognise that whilst we may be busy we must still facilitate travel across the Solent. There will be a dedicated waiting area for commuters at Ryde on Monday, June 25, and a guarantee of no changes in fares, even if the prices rise for the festival period.

"If you are not a season card holder but want to purchase a ticket during the festival days you can use any form of ID with an Portsmouth (PO) postcode address to avoid any possible increases in fares for the extra services we will be operating."

The busiest days are expected to be Thursday, June 21, and Friday, June 22, from Southsea, and Monday, June 25, travelling from Ryde.

Hovertravel will be running a booked craft service for festival-goers, which has helped keep queues to a minimum in previous years.

*Red Funnel season ticket holders will be given priority boarding from Southampton on Thurday and Friday, June 21 and 22, and from West Cowes and East Cowes on Monday, June 25.

The priority boarding only applies to foot passengers.

Season ticket holders are classed as those with annual, six-month, monthly and weekly season tickets or customers using books of tickets or the Red Funnel Travel Card.

'increases in fares for the extra services we will be operating' - that's disgraceful - I hope festival goers are made aware of this and use the other services that don't bump up their fares.

Oh come on people stop being so cynical! It's not like the ferry companies run a monopoly and use the busy summer period to fleece us mainlanders who love the island and want to come over . Not all of us are rich London bankers , well not after paying ferry fares anyway.

""even if the prices rise for the festival period.""

Why should they?
