Monday, April 18, 2016 - 11:52

PROTESTERS from the Isle of Wight joined tens of thousands of people at an anti-austerity march in central London.
Demonstrators descended on the capital on Saturday, waving banners and placards protesting the government's austerity measures and chanting 'no ifs, no buts, no public sector cuts'.
Among those to attend were Isle of Wight Council leader and Island Independent Cllr Jonathan Bacon, Labour Cllr Geoff Lumley, Isle of Wight Green Party leader Vix Lowthion and Unison branch secretary Mark Chiverton, together with members of anti-austerity campaign group Unite the Isle of Wight.
Vix tweeted from the march in support of the CP's Fight for the Wight campaign, calling for more funding for public services on the Island: "Bringing the @Fight4theWight and the fight against austerity to the streets of London today. #nomorecuts"
Speakers at the rally, organised by the People's Assembly Against Austerity, included Labour and Green Party politicians and union leaders.
