A JOINT public meeting of Cowes and East Cowes residents is planned to discuss plans to charge foot passengers and cyclists on the floating bridge.
The IW Council is asking residents for their views as part of a debate about the future of the ferry.
East Cowes Town Council called for the accounts of the service for the last four years to be published, ahead of the consultation.
Councillors also asked for profits from the service to be set aside to help pay for a replacement.
The government has given £25 million to major Island projects following a joint bid by the Isle of Wight Council, Southampton City Council and the Solent Enterprise Partnership.
Part of the money will go to a new floating bridge.
In a recent online poll on the Isle of Wight County Press website, there were 429 votes in favour of charging foot passengers and cyclists and 403 against.
When asked if there should be a charge, there were 467 votes for a 20p charge, 235 for 50p and 30 for £1 for a single crossing.
