A leader of the Government's anti-drugs task force hit the nightclubs in Enfield recently -- to launch a campaign against drug misuse.

Mike Trace, second-in-command to the Government's `Drugs Czar' Keith Hellawell, spoke at a seminar at Eros nightclub.

The event was organised by the Enfield and Haringey Drug Action Teams (DAT's) to discuss local implementation of the National Drug Strategy.

The national strategy was launched earlier this year under the banner Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain, with four priorities.

It aims to help young people resist drug misuse, and provide treatment enabling people with drug problems to overcome them.

It proposes measures to protect communities from drug-related crime and stifle the availability of drugs on the streets.

Local councillors, magistrates, health officials and voluntary workers were among the 50 delegates invited to the nightclub.

Enfield and Haringey DAT's include top representatives from the police, probation service, the local council and Enfield and Haringey Health Authority.

They hope to draw the local community together to fight back against drug abuse and drug related anti- social and criminal behaviour.
