Rain floods roads and causes landslips

Patrick Hall the isle of wight council webb is very secretive can some one tell me the decision on 44 Worsly Road developmemt because its disapeared of the page like most desisions

Sorry Catharine Black it must of failed my attention that Hursts etc were open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day - not sure how you can assume that everyone expects everyone else to do all the work - we have spent many hours cleaning streams out, gutters and drains etc. All we were saying is there should be some bags available out of hours from the Council. It wouldn't worry me if I had to pay for them but being able to get some when shops are shut would be helpful. And thats the sort of information we wanted to know - not what the weather was doing - we aren't thick - and many areas that are not prone to flooding normally have been this time - which is fully expected, however you don't want to start panic buying things unless you need too - well unless you have plenty of money - which in our case we don't!

What happened to the Local Land Drainage Committe on the Island. It seems to me that post privatisation of the Water Industry, the maintenance of Rivers, Streams and Surface Water Sewers has deteriorated rapidly. As ex Water Employee now living on mainland, I notice a huge difference to the river maintenance now compared to how it used to be. This is true not just on Island but in all Water Companies - we were flooded in 2007 and found that it was all due to lack of maintencae of a Surface Water Sewer. They may be a lot of rain but if it flowed away better that would not make problems so bad. (and ultimately costly - especially in trauma caused to householders who are flooded)

Goodness me how much information do you need. Look out the window, it was absolutely pouring down for a long time. this means that the already sodden ground is trying to soak up more, it cannot. Hence flooding. It's nobody's particular fault. That's how it is, learn to live with it and stop complaining. If you want to do something about it get out there and help clear streams, rivers, gutters and drains, you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel.
Sandbags, go to Hursts (other places do them I'm sure) buy some bags, go get some sand, voila, sandbags. Stop expecting everyone else to do it for you at everyone else's expense.

Mr Elliot - Think about it, its the Isle of Wight - if you don't fall into one of the categories that you mentioned then you are one of a small minority - you are the sort of person that would also complain if hundreds of houses were built on the top of the downs so they couldn't get flooded and say its an eyesore and the roofs all get ripped off from the wind and should live in a valley.

Do you know what amazes me - how little information the Isle of Wight Council have put out on website/radio/press etc - we desperately need some sandbags - can we get them anywhere no, so that means it will end up costing the tax payer more when the fire service are called to pump us out! We have tried for 4 days now! Stream at end of garden has gone and flooded the sheds and garage, the road is like a river and the stream nearest the house is close to overflowing! Are we on a flood warning - no - so that means we can't have any Hmmmmm, something not right there then. 2 inches deep outside one door

The Island has had nearly 1 meter of rainfall up to now in 2012.
Not surprising there are slips. I can see this lot costing a packet, sea walls arn't cheap for a start.
