A BEAUTIFUL mosaic depicting one of Britain’s rarest butterflies has been unveiled in Bonchurch.
The mosaic, created by the Ventnor School of Mosaics, depicts the Island’s Glanville Fritillery near the spot where the rare insect breeds on the coast.
The mosaic is at the bottom of Shore Road on the revetment and was commissioned by Ventnor Enhancement Group.
The group then approached Bonchurch Community Association, who found a place for the mosaic, on a wall owned by a private home.
The mosaic was officially unveiled last Saturday. Chair of the Bonchurch Community Association, Sandra Gonzalez, said: "We put the idea to the mosaic group there could be more mosaics about the flora and fauna.
"They said it was a very good idea so hopefully in the future, we will have more."
