THE Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment (PWRR) has been spared following the latest defence cuts, which were announced this lunchtime (Thursday).
Defence Secretary Philip Hammond told the House of Commons there would be 17 fewer major units.
However, despite widespread fear in the region, the axe did not fall on the 1st Battalion of the PWRR, in which many Islanders serve.
The cuts were made as part of the Army 2020 restructuring of the Army into an integrated force that is trained and equipped for future challenges.
