A BOAT flushing its tanks at sea off the Isle of Wight was to blame for a strong smell of gas in Bembridge last night (Sunday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called to Jenny Streets Lane at 10.20pm after residents in the area raised concerns about the odour.
Fire crews returned to base at 11pm after the coastguard told them a vessel just off the Bembridge coast had been flushing its tanks.
