Rider dies after collision

A SCOOTER rider has died following a collision yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, according to police on the Isle of Wight.

Police have appealed for witnesses following the collision, which did not involve any other vehicles,

"The incident happened at about 4.20pm when a scooter was travelling along the A3054 Binstead Road, from Ryde to Newport.

"It is believed that the driver collided with a post at the side of the road.

"The male rider was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Nobody else was involved in the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Isle of Wight roads policing team on 101.

It was initially reported that the man was a motorcyclist. This was due to information supplied by emergency services.
