MAY I avail myself of your excellent paper to thank you for putting so much time and effort towards putting the Normandy veterans "on the map".

Also for helping with our fundraising efforts which incidentally go towards day- -day welfare needs of members apart from the projected visit next year in Normandy.

Due thanks must go also to you for your coverage of hte 40th anniversary of the Harlow branch of the Royal Naval Association, but may I correct a Freudian slip of the reporter's pen in this report (October 21).

The base of the shed (for Mr Mead's scooter) was provided by Barratts and we are grateful for that. But the shed itself was bought from the funds of the association members.

Also, my welfare visits cover three or four days in total per month (not week) and includes all of our membership who have ill health generally or temporary, at home or in hospital, or are aged and infirm, as and when we get to know them.

In closing, let us not forget all war veterans or widows who may not be a member of any ex-service associations and may need help. Give them a helping hand .

FRED BAKER,

Welfare officer of the Royal Naval Association,

Tilbury Mead,

Harlow.
