THE operation to explode the second of two wartime pipe mines will go ahead at the weekend, BAE Systems said.
One mine was blown up last month at Somerton and specialists will again work within a 200-metre cordoned-off exclusion zone for two nine-hour periods, from 11pm tonight (Friday) and 11pm tomorrow (Saturday).
It means road closures in the area, including a section of the A3020 Newport Road.
Removal of the mines clears the way for construction of the Aldi supermarket on the site.
