Rock academy for young stars

A NEW music academy for youngsters has been launched by an Island music studio.

Agile Studios, Sandown, has established a rock band academy, teaching drums, bass, guitar and vocals, and a pop academy, teaching vocals and dance, for children as young as seven.

Jessica Toyne, of Agile, said: "The idea behind the clubs is to give young musicians the opportunity to learn an instrument in a fun environment.

"The clubs, which will run on Saturdays, will cover all aspects of being in a band, from learning contemporary pop songs, rehearsal techniques and performance skills."

There will also be songwriting sessions and workshops for more experienced musicians.

The project has followed six months of work to develop a rock choir at Arreton Primary School.

"The children have been great to work with and have really inspired me to get this project off the ground," she said.

"The Island has so many opportunities for musicians. We have a mix of festivals and events, Platform One delivering high quality music education and qualifications and the Rob da Bank Music Club for older teens.

"Our clubs offer something for the younger audience and we aim to help contribute to the Island music scene by shaping and developing young musicians," said Jessica.
