STAFF at the British Heart Foundation in Ryde were ladies and men in red, as the shop celebrated its 16th birthday and National Heart Month.

The shop, in the High Street, marked its birthday as the charity launched its Rock up in Red Day, to raise awareness about heart health and fundraise for the charity’s fight against heart disease.

Vickie Angell, store manager, said: "We had balloons everywhere and we were giving out donation bags to customers and passers-by.

"We were all dressed in anything red we could find, like hats, scarves, jewellery, we were top-to-toe red. We even had red shoes."

As Valentine’s Day fell in National Heart Month, the charity has been running its Love Notes campaign, where for a donation of £1, people can write on a notelet and have their declaration of love displayed in the shop window.

Staff at the shop were also honoured for their long service and volunteers Carol Yapp, Jean Drudge and Chris Arnold all received certificates and badges to mark five years of volunteering.
