THE annual Shanklin Rotary Club big sale started on Tuesday and it is hoped to make around £40,000, the same amount as last year.

The event at Park Resorts, Lower Hyde, is attracting hundreds of bargain hunters and £9,000 was raised on its opening day.

Organiser Mike Jones said: "We raised a record £47,000 last year so anywhere near that will be a bonus."

Items on sale include furniture, books and clothes and all proceeds will go towards local and national charities.

The big sale is open daily — except on Sunday and Monday — from 10am to 4pm.

There will be a late opening until 8pm on Wednesday and the sale will finish at 1pm next Saturday, January 26.
