Roundabout protesters to be evicted

GREEN protesters occupying a roundabout in Newport are due to be evicted by bailiffs tomorrow morning (Friday).

At the IW County Court on Tuesday, landowners MJH Developments — whose offices lie close to the site of the protest on St Cross Business Park — were granted a possession order, allowing them to have the protesters removed.

The protest includes former Vestas workers and eco-campaigners.

They have been on the site since the workers’ occupation of the Vestas Blades factory in the summer.

They staged a sit-in inside the building for more than two weeks after the firm announced plans to cut hundreds of jobs.

Despite last-minute appeals from protesters for more time to allow them to clean up the site, they said the company declined to meet with them and they were told they would be removed this morning.
